Career military officer, noted for his service in the horse artillery in the Union Army cavalry during the Civil War. Collection comprises Tidball's manuscript (5 pgs.) on poor whites in the South. He divided his study regionally, discussing working class whites on the Georgia coast versus those in the southern Alleghenies.
