Oracles and books on divination (01-045)(28 items, 1.8 linear feet; dated ca. 1970s-1990s and undated), including 17 decks of tarot and other cards, many enclosed in fabric or leather. Shore designed two of the decks, "The Earth Alliance Deck" and "The Earthrise Deck." Also includes sets of runes and I Ching coins, a pendulum, an edition of the I CHING, a rune book edited by Ralph Blum, and other printed material regarding the I CHING and tarot cards.

The addition (01-248) (5131 items, 19.2 linear feet; dated 1953-2000, bulk 1970s-ca. 1998) documents Shor's work on dreams. Includes 41 volumes of meditation and dream journals by Shore (1974-1999); other journals and dream documentation and interpretation by Shor and others; correspondence; and dream-related periodicals, including Dream Network Bulletin. There are also drafts of Shor's poems, short stories, essays, and dream handbooks (ca. 1953-2000), including Unexpected Gifts, Open Channel, Dreaming with Angels, Shared Dreaming, Dream Tool Kit: How to Remember and Encode Your Own Dreams, Small Gifts, and The Swan; records from the Dreamgate Shared Dreaming Project; notes on or from other dream-related workshops; 11 black-and-white and 3 color photographs; and 197 computer disks containing circa 9800 electronic documents.

The Durham Traditional Arts Survey was conducted in the early 2000s as part of the Document Durham project within the Community Programs department at the Center for Documentary Studies. Participants consisted of folklorists and photographers who traveled through Durham County, attempting to document the diversity of various communities by focusing on traditional artists within those communities. One outcome of the DTAS was the Home Made Visible: Durham 2002 exhibition, which highlighted Durham traditional arts and crafts. Includes fieldwork reports, interview tapes, slides, photographs, and other documentary material from the research and observations conducted by participants in the Durham Traditional Arts Survey Project. Durham communities and artists represented in the project include African American, African immigrants, Latino, Middle Eastern, Jewish, South Indian, and Asian, as well as occupational traditions and rural community traditions. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts.

Judy Malloy papers, 1956-2010 15.6 Linear Feet — 13200 Items

Judy Malloy is a poet and an early creator of online interactive and collaborative fiction. She is a founder of the Arts Conference on the WELL, and wrote Uncle Roger, the first online hyperfiction. Collection includes documentation and materials from Malloy's publications and programs, including Uncle Roger and its name was Penelope, as well as materials from her nonfiction research, including her 2003 book, Women, Technology, and Art. Also includes exhibition files and correspondence files from Malloy's career as an artist, both from creating artists books and from her work in new media and hypertext. Correspondence files include letters, postcards, original artwork and clippings from other artists as well as electronic literature (e-lit) artists and writers.

The Judy Malloy Papers includes the personal and professional papers and materials from Judy Malloy, a groundbreaking artist, author, and poet working in electronic literature and online interactive formats.

Malloy's Printed Materials series includes both books and journal publications, with content both by and about Malloy, as well as some of her own reference material. Many books feature a chapter or contribution by Malloy, discussing or explaining her experimentation with online narratives and electronic fiction. Other articles discuss and reference her early contributions, including Uncle Roger and its name was Penelope. Some material relates to computer programming and early Internet research material. Finally, this series contains a cluster of books used by Malloy in her research for various publications. These are grouped at the end of the series.

The Notebooks series includes Malloy's notes and drafts for her various writing projects, including Uncle Roger, its name was Penelope, and Brown House Kitchen. These notebooks reveal the changes each work underwent as it was edited and outlined.

The Early Artists Books series consists largely of notes and photocopies of some of Malloy's early books, as well as a folder with color slides of a selection of her art.

Malloy's Writings and Programming series is largely focused on her new media work, with large amounts of material from her creation and publication of Uncle Roger, the first electronic hyperfiction. These files include her original work, as told on the Art Com Electronic Network (ACEN), as well as later versions and program printouts. Similar documentation is available for its name was Penelope, originally exhibited by Malloy in 1988-1989 and eventually published by Narrabase Press in 1990 and Eastgate in 1993. This subseries also includes an artist book for Penelope. Smaller amounts of materials exist for Malloy's other e-literature and programs, including You!, Brown House Kitchen, Molasses, Forward Anywhere, Wasting Time, Thirty Minutes in the Late Afternoon, Dorothy Abrona McCrae, and Paths of Memory and Painting, among others. There is also a small amount of material relating to Malloy's printed works, including Women, Art & Technology, as well as early children's literature.

The Exhibitions series includes documentation and materials from Malloy's installations and exhibitions of her artists books as well as exhibitions of her new media and electronic fiction. These have been divided thusly in the Detailed Description, and subsequently arranged chronologically. Materials include postcards, plans, correspondence, news clippings and press coverage, contracts, and other materials relating to the exhibit.

Talks and Readings is a small series with materials from various speaking engagements. The most significant was Malloy's participation in the Telluride Ideas Festival in 1993.

The Correspondence series includes much more than correspondence, and is in fact more of a name file of Malloy's relationships throughout the artist and e-lit communities. Her general correspondence includes letters from her childhood and college travels, as well as some miscellaneous files of correspondence with various curators and others regarding her exhibitions. The bulk of the series, however, consists of Malloy's artist correspondence and Art Com Electronic Network correspondence. These files include letters, postcards, prints, news clippings and press coverage, and occasional pieces of original art sent to Malloy throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The ACEN artist files include email and letters, some exhibition documentation, and some software-related documentation that overlaps with the Media by Other Artists series. The Correspondence series is grouped by General, Artists, and ACEN Artists, and subsequently sorted alphabetically.

The Media by Other Artists series includes software and accompanying documentation by several ACEN artists, many of whom included inscriptions or autographs for Malloy, as well as other new media. Finally, the Personal Materials series includes a subseries of personal photographs and slides, information on Malloy's family, and memorabilia including calendars and documents.

RESTRICTIONS: It should be noted that while this collection includes electronic media, these disks have been separated from the manuscript material in order to be migrated to Duke's Electronic Server for preservation. The Office of Special Events and University Ceremonies was formed in 1983 to handle the planning of campus-wide events. The Office of Special Events and University Ceremonies records includes files related to the organization of events and ceremonies such as Commencement, Baccalaureate services, Founders' Day celebrations, Board of Trustees dinners, awards banquets, special guests at football and basketball games, and many others.

Files primarily consist of planning documents such as guest lists, invitations, schedules and agendas, menus, receipts and invoices, and some correspondence. The records also include some photographs, video and audio recordings of events, including the inauguration of Nannerl O. Keohane as President of the University in 1993, and several floppy disks.

The majority of the files were arranged chronologically, with files for individual events, although some dates are out of order; these are the Event files. Many of these files are related to sporting events, award dinners/luncheons, trustee events, faculty events, and events hosted by or involving the President of the University. Files from 2007-2007 and 2009-2010 have a different arrangment, very closely related to the files and arrangement of the University Marshal records, and include more correspondence and topical files related to commencement and founders' day; these are the Academic year files.

Also included are event binders, primarily related to football games and including guest lists and details of special guest attendance at football games. Additional materials include copies of printed invitations and announcements, and recordings of commencements, baccalaureate services, banquets, and the innauguration of President Nannerl Keohane.

The President's Advisory Committee on Resources was established by President H. Keith H. Brodie in the summer of 1989 following a recommendation of the Academic Council's Task Force on University Governance. Its predecessor was the University Committee on Resources (1988-1989). PACOR was a broad-based committee, chaired by a faculty member, which advised the President on the allocation of the University's financial, human and physical resources. Material includes minutes, reports, handouts, correspondence, memoranda, spiral-bound publications, diskettes, microcassettes and standard cassettes. Materials range in date from 1988-1995.

Third Side Press records, 1991-2003 13.2 Linear Feet — 8775 items

Third Side Press, a feminist publisher of women's health and lesbian fiction books, was founded in 1991 and ceased active publication in 1998. It was dissolved as a corporation in 2003. During the years of active publication, Third Side Press produced between 20 and 25 titles, mostly in paperback, including top sellers such as CANCER AS A WOMEN'S ISSUE and THE WOMAN-CENTERED ECONOMY. Midge Stocker is the founder and publisher of Third Side Press. Materials include correspondence, financial records, book proofs and files, book reviews, and other records relating to the operation of Third Side Press publishing house. Also includes copies of several Third Side Press publications. Floppy disks and other electronic materials have been removed for preservation. Veteran Feminists of America (VFA) is a nonprofit organization for veterans of the Second Wave of the feminist movement. It was founded by Jacqueline Ceballos and held its first feminist reunion in 1993. The organization continues to operate today, sponsoring reunions, programs, and publications honoring feminists throughout the United States. The accession (2008-0286) includes administrative files, program and reunion materials, obituaries, correspondence, financial information, newsletters, periodicals, and photographs relating to the activities and programs of the Veteran Feminists of America. Special media formats include DVDs, floppy disks, and CDs, some of which have been withdrawn for electronic preservation. There are also medals and other ephemera. The addition (2008-0254) consists of DVDs of VFA events and interviews. Addition (2009-0131) includes administrative files, events files, and other organizational information. In particular, the accession includes materials from the Salute to Feminist Lawyers event put on in June 2008 at the Harvard Club in New York.

The addition (2010-0097) (300 items; 0.6 lin. ft., dated 2005-2010) includes miscellaneous newsletters, dated 2005-2008; board meeting minutes from 2007; event and program files from a 2009 Pompano Beach, FL awards gala and a Dallas conference entitled The Gender Agenda: Beyond Borders, held March 2010. The Dallas event files include copies of materials on 22 honorees, as well as the program text and other promotional materials. Other topics in this accession include website initiatives and the Feminists Who Changed America book launch.
