The role of the ombudsman is to work with the Faculty Hearing Committee to facilitate prompt and equitable resolution of allegations by faculty members and instructional staff that there has been a violation of university policy. The collection includes correspondence, memoranda, notes, minutes and other records of the office.

The collection includes correspondence, memoranda, notes, minutes, and other records concerning the establishment of the position of ombudsman and the Faculty Hearing Committee, policies and specific cases, and copies of ombudsman practices and policies at other institutions. There are files that contain personnel records and are restricted for 70 years. Other files may fall under the 25 year administrative records restrictions.
