Founded in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT) is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. Brouillard Communications, a division of JWT, was established in 1973 and specialized in business-to-business advertising and corporate communications. Brouillard closed in 2009. Collection spans the years 1995-2005 and contains primarily proofs of print advertising campaigns, along with some tear sheets and printouts of PDF files. Some brochures, printed materials and direct mailing items are also present in the collection. Companies represented include American Gas Association, American Physical Therapy Association, Barclays, Bell Atlantic, CITCO, Dassault, Dow Jones, Johns Manville, Maserati, Morgan Stanley and United Technologies. The collection combines the records of the New Business Departments of JWT's major U.S. offices: New York, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, and San Francisco, and includes presentations, memoranda, case histories, market research, and profiles of companies, industries, market segments, products and product categories. Topics addressed include the youth market, financial services marketing, food and grocery marketing, feminine hygiene and other personal products, and product branding. The collection includes photographs, audiocassettes, videocassettes, DVDs. Over 300 companies are represented in the collection, including Alitalia, Baskin-Robbins, Bell Atlantic, Circuit City, Eastern Airlines, Eyelab, Frito-Lay, Goodyear, Häagen-Dazs, HBO, Hyatt Hotels, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Kodak, Kraft, Miller Beer, Morgan Stanley, Nabisco, Nestlé, Prudential, Schering-Plough, and the U.S. Navy. The collection primarily consists of memoranda, financial reports, organizational charts, surveys, marketing plans, stock exchange reports, annual meeting agendas, presentation speeches and layouts, news releases, cassette tapes of annual meetings, and newspaper and magazine articles concerning JWT. Materials pertain to investments and acquisitions made by JWT in the United States, Europe, Australia, Asia, and South Africa.
