Background

Scope and content:

Thirty-one audio files containing interviews with 29 interviewees. As abortion care workers, narrators may have worked in various capacities, including as medical assistants, surgical technicians, counselors, managers/administrators, and clinic escorts. Some of the narrators were prominent figures in the U.S. abortion-rights movement and discuss their experiences with activism. Portions of audio may be redacted to protect third parties.

Biographical / historical:

Claire L. Keyes is director emeritus of Allegheny Reproductive Health in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Natalie L. "Tasha" Kimball is Associate Professor of History, College of Staten Island, City University of New York, and worked in abortion care at clinics in Pittsburgh and Seattle between 2004 and 2013.

Acquisition information:
The Abortion Clinic Worker oral histories were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a gift in 2024.
