Work Prints, 1980s-2005

Scope and content:

Contains 103 black and white work prints created by Mariette Pathy Allen for various projects circa 1980s-2005. Many of the prints relate to the portfolio, The Gender Frontier, but there are some prints that cover other projects. Photographs in the series focus on depictions of the transgender people in their communities, and alongside family, friends, and partners in their everyday lives; gender transition, including hormone therapy and surgergy; political activism including lobbying efforts, protests and demonstrations for transgender rights, Gay Pride, the Sean O'Neill trial, and women's rights as well as counter protests by religious groups; a few images related to the closure of two clubs during the AIDS epidemic; and images of the New York area.
