Life at Large and Other Work, 1973-2022

Series houses 67 11x14 inch black-and-white photographs taken by Jesse Pyrant Andrews, chiefly documenting the people, cultures, and landscapes of central Piedmont North Carolina and Virginia. The remaining images were taken in New York State, California, and Massachusetts. Images feature street scenes (Boston), buildings, and natural subjects such as plants and ice on a pond.
Other Life at Large images are also found in the Virginia series, marked in the legacy identifiers as "LAL." Photographs of some of the same people in the Life at Large series can also be found in the Portraits series.
A selection of prints in this series has been digitized and is featured on the Duke Digital Collections website.

Titles, captions, and original negative identifiers assigned by the photographer have been retained. Several prints in this series are unnumbered. Prints are arranged in rough chronological order according to the negative date. Each print has also been assigned an institutional identifier.
