Contains a substantial volume of materials documenting US foreign policy in Nicaragua from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s under the Carter, Reagan, and Bush administrations, with primary emphasis on the role of the United States in the decade-long Contra War. Areas of focus include the mining of Nicaraguan harbors, congressional debates surrounding Contra aid and peace initiatives, the scope of covert aid and operations in support of Contra objectives, and the Iran-Contra Affair. Materials include: congressional hearings, reports, statements, and correspondence; excerpts of the Congressional Record; newspaper clippings; excerpts of FBIS reports; policy statements, briefings, and declassified documents from the Department of State; and nonprofit reports and communications.
