Printed materials, 1965-2015

Scope and content:

The Printed Materials series contains four subseries: Serials, Reports and Handbooks, Books and Pamphlets, and Ephemera.

The Serials subseries contains copies of Baker's newsletters, The Campaign Report and The ProChoice Report . It also includes the publications of many anti-abortion organizations, including Advocates for Life, National Right to Life and Focus on the Family. The subseries includes publications from pro-abortion organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation. Files may include marginalia or tipped in items added by Baker during the course of her research. These materials are arranged alphabetically by the name of the producing organization, title of publication and by date. Additional serials may be found in the Research Files subseries.

The Reports and Handbooks subseries includes monographic reports and handbooks produced by various organizations including the ACLU, the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the National Abortion Federation, National Organization of Women (NOW), and National Right to Life. Some items may include marginalia or tip ins added by Baker during her research. These materials are organized by organization and then date.

The Printed Ephemera subseries is comprised of assorted printed items collected throughout the course of processing the collection. The bulk of the anti-abortion ephemera was housed loose in one box and labeled as such by Baker. Please note, some the anti-abortion ephemera contains graphic images of deceased fetuses.

The Books and Pamphlets subseries is comprised of books from Baker's personal library and pamphlets produced by various organizations. These materials include inscriptions to Baker, tip ins and marginalia produced by Baker. This subseries is housed unfoldered in a record carton box.

Collection restrictions:

Access restricted. A portion of the Research Files series (a subseries: Operation Rescue Arrest Lists and Clippings by City) contains sensitve materials, including identifying personal information. It is restricted until 2054. Contact Research Services to request access.
