Scope and content:

A letter from Cooper County, Missouri, July 38, 1851, from Lawrence Berry Washington, describes an ocean voyage from California by way of Panama, gives a picture of Havana, Cuba, and discusses American filibustering and Spanish rule, and goes on to tell about the Missouri frontier. He speaks very negatively about the the abolition movement.

Letters of Caroline B. (Lawrence) Bedinger, mother of Danske Dandridge, to her husband's family in the South and her relatives in New York concern her experience as a young woman in Washington, D.C., and Virginia; and her experiences in Copenhagen while her husband Henry served as U.S. consul to Denmark.

The Copenhagen correspondence of Henry Bedinger, III, and letters from his wife Caroline begin with 1854 when he was serving as U. S. Consul (1853-1855) and continue through 1858, when he served as Minister. There are many descriptions of the Danish court, and settings in Germany, Sweden, and Norway at the time.
