Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) was a French painter and sculptor, particularly known for paintings of animals. She and her partner, Nathalie Micas, lived openly as lesbian companions. Bonheur was also known for wearing men's clothing due to its practicality and convenience for her work painting animals.
