Book 22, 1994-1995

Scope and content:

Volume 22 continues with Carol and Pete's Golden Wedding Anniversary. The guests include Pete's brothers and their wives: Bill and Eleanor Bradley, plus Walt and Barbara Bradley. It has been thirty years since all the Bradley brothers were together. Carol recounts how destiny brought Pete and her together, then Pete takes a turn at the microphone and reminisces about their romance and secret marriage in Casper, W.Y., just before he departed for England to serve his country in World War II. Floyd gives his parents plane tickets to London as a gift so they can celebrate Floyd and Amanda's 10th wedding anniversary in June. Tori will stay home to watch Little Guy, Carol's pet Yorkie who is getting on in years. Carol and Pete meet Bill Lovelace, Shirley Urmston's fiancé. Carol breaks her wrist while getting out of bed at home in Little Silver. Old friends Marilyn and Jim Coburn visit the Bradleys. Slipping on ice, Carol falls in the JC Penny parking lot, breaking her right collar bone, and scraping her teeth. Floyd joins Carol and Pete for Pete's Duke 50th Reunion for the Classes of 1943-1945 in Durham, N.C., and later they all visit Grove Hall and the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Little Guy dies in Carol's arms after a short walk. He is buried with Sybil and Tootie at Stillmeadow Animal Rest Cemetery.
