Scope and content:

This collection contains files on Burmeister's faculty activites (including teaching), research files, manuscript files, correspondence files (including correspondence with Paul Samuelson), and files on his professional activites. The primary subjects are capital theory, economic growth theory, and arbitrage pricing theory (APT).

Biographical / historical:

Edwin Burmeister is Research Professor Emeritus of Economics at Duke University. He previously taught at the University of Virginia and the University of Pennsylvania before coming to Duke in 1991 then retiring in 2008. After receiving BS and MA degrees from Cornell University in 1961 and 1962, respectively, he earned a PhD from the University of Massachusetts in 1965. He has published in the fields of mathematical economics and economic theory, particularly capital theory, economic growth, and macroeconomics. He was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society and served as editor of the International Economic Review and associate editor of several other journals.
