Scope and content:

Materials in this subseries relate to CJPC's work on sentencing reform, and include information on pre-trial procedures, probation, juveniles, drug court, and alternative penalties, with the majority originating from the Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission (SPAC). Also included are some success stories from these programs. There is some overlap between project subdivisions, since oftentimes CJPC's work on sentencing committees led to the development of community programs: for example, the Sentencing Policy and Advisory Commission led to the Community Corrections project (see Community Programs for more materials on these projects).

Projects in this subseries include: CSA (Community Sentencing Association), FASC (Fayetteville Area Sentencing Center), SP (Sentencing Project), SS (Sentencing Services), and SPAC (North Carolina Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission).

There are also some large tear sheets from a Sentencing Project meeting with action plans for alternative penalties, and a copy of the North Carolina Independent newspaper from December 4-10 2002 which have been separated to oversize housing for preservation purposes.

Arrangement:

Materials are arranged alphabetically by project, with the exception of the NC Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission, which is arranged chronologically by year.
