Scope and content:

These subject files were used by Carolina Justice Policy Center staff and volunteers as a resource for research and other work. Materials within the folders are varied, with a predominance of printed materials such as articles and clippings, fliers, handouts, reports, and advocacy manuals and handbooks. Other formats include correspondence and handwritten notes, as well as charts, statistics, and other fact sheets; there are a few oversize materials, housed separately. A handful of videocassettes are related to conditions in prisons. Titles of folders and videos in this series are taken from the original folder labels.

A large series of subject files about the death penalty is located in the Death Penalty series.

Arrangement:

Arranged in the following subseries: Alternatives to Incarceration; Mental Health; Prisons; Race; Restitution; Sentencing; Statistics; Substance Abuse; Violence Prevention; and Women. Files are arranged alphabetically by title within each subject subseries.
