These records document Alan McGregor's work with the Prison and Jail Project (PJP) in its early years. Most of the work was focused on advocating against the death penalty and contains files on individual cases, correspondence with incarcerated people on death row, materials from other similar organizations, relevant legislation, newspaper clippings, PJP payroll, project development ideas, and a variety of research materials on the death penalty. There are also some materials on prison conditions, including prison budgets, living conditions, and prison construction.
Other items include an oversized map of Guilford County (housed separately for preservation purposes) and an audio track on 16 mm film with a one-minute public service announcement for the North Carolinians Against the Death Penalty (available in the Rubenstein reading room as an audio file).
