Scope and content:

Materials include general research into Somalia (some of which contains content indexes), reports from human rights organizations, news clippings, and timelines of events in Somalia from various sources. This includes works by political scientist and professor Kenneth Menkhaus, including a 2003 United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees report entitled "Somalia: A Situation Analysis and Trend Assessment." Several folders also contain documents focusing on the U.S. government's relationships with various Somali entities such as its government, the military leader Mohammed Said Hersi Morgan, and the special forces unit, the Red Berets.

Materials in this collection may include violent acts, including firsthand accounts and descriptions of torture and violent deaths.
