Letters primarily concerning Chickering's writings, statistical research, and professional service in education and banking systems from people such as Levi Woodbury (Democratic politician from New Hampshire), Thomas Sherwin (educator based in Boston), and James Buchanan (while he served as the 17th US Secretary of State). Some items are reproductions.
Also includes personal items, such as an 1822 letter sent from Chickering to his father announcing the death of his brother Ellis.
