Clear Channel is a multi-media communications company based in San Antonio, Tex.
The outdoor advertising company Foster and Kleiser was founded in 1901 by Walter Foster and George Kleiser, initially operating in Portland and Seattle. Foster & Kleiser was sold to Metropolitan Broadcasting in 1959. In 1986 Metromedia, a division of Metropolitan, sold Foster & Kleiser to Patrick Media. Hellman & Friedman together with Karl Eller purchased Patrick Media and renamed it Eller Media in 1995. In 1997 Eller was acquired by Clear Channel Communications, and in 2001 Eller Media chanaged its name to Clear Channel Outdoor.
