Unidentified balding man with mustache, dressed in szlachta jacket with fur collar, seated, half-length portrait, between 1858 and 1865
- Containers:
- Box 2, Page 9, Image 17
- Scope and content:
-
Photographer: Aleksander Witkowski. Location: Warsaw (Poland). Inscription: "Mói" or "Mój." Unfinished inscription. Translation: "My" and unfinished inscription.
- Biographical / historical:
- The clothing suggests the szlachta, or Polish landowning class, which would include both Joseph Conrad's Korzeniowski and Bobrowski lines or a number of friends. Worn in Warsaw, it could also have hinted at political dissidence. The photographer's dates place this around the time of the January Uprising.
