Scope and content:

The First Trial subseries documents the trial held against Creech by The United Methodist Church in March, 1998. Creech was charged with violating the Order and Discipline of The United Methodist Church for celebrating a covenant ceremony for two women in Omaha, Nebraska in September, 1997. Subseries comprises correspondence, trial transcripts, clippings, and Creech's notes on the trial proceedings. Contains correspondence with Nebraska Bishop Joel Martinez and Creech's advisors, including his wife, Chris Weedy. Subseries contains defense team correspondence and notes. A bulk of the subseries contains positive letters of support Creech received during the trial as well as negative letters condemning his actions
