International Organization of Consumers' Unions (IOCU)/Consumers International (CI), 1962-2005

Scope and content:

The International Organization of Consumers' Unions (IOCU) formed in 1960 as a consortium of consumer advocacy organizations to address consumer issues on a global scale. Initially composed of 16 members, by the 1990s the IOCU grew to over 200 members and representation as an observer at the United Nations. In 1995 the name changed to Consumers International (CI).
