Scope and content:

Reflecting a central focus in photographer Jim Dow's work, these images document the exteriors and interiors of small food businesses, and include pizza stands, food trucks, taco stands, barbecue restaurants, bars, diners, and other food-related businesses. Often included are neon signs, window displays, and other vernacular details. Locations are from every region of the U.S., with a focus on the South. In keeping with much of Dow's work, there are usually no people in these photographs. Locations abroad center on Uruguay and Argentina. Many other food-centric images are found in the American Studies, U.S Road, England, North Dakota, and Mexico series.

Original titles and negative identifiers were created by the photographer.

Material specific details:

The archival pigment photographs in this series were printed by Jim Dow in April 2023, using an Epson P5000 printer and Canson Baryta Photographique II paper. Approximate measurements for the handling prints are: sheet size, 8½x11 inches; image size, 8x10 inches. Approximate measurements for the exhibit-quality prints are: sheet size, 13x19 inches; image size, 12x15 inches.
