These color photographs of North Dakota were taken by Jim Dow from 1981 to 2022. Initially traveling there for a commissioned series by the North Dakota Museum of Art, Dow continued to shoot there for several decades. The photographs feature rural landscapes, farm buildings, outdoor folk art and advertising, churches, and small-town business exteriors and interiors. The images appear in Dow's 2007 photobook, Marking the Land: Jim Dow in North Dakota.
Original titles and negative identifiers were created by the photographer.
- Material specific details:
- The archival pigment photographs in this series were printed by Jim Dow from May to June 2022 on Canson Baryta Photographique II paper, using an Epson P5000 printer. Approximate measurements for the smaller handling print sizes are: sheet size, 8½x11 inches; image size, 8x10 inches. The larger exhibit-quality prints size are: sheet size, 13x19 inches; image size, 12x15 inches.
