These photographs were taken by Jim Dow with a view camera as he traveled the highways and back roads of the United States, covering all regions from coast to coast, focusing particularly on the South, the West, and New England.
The earliest images, many of New England, are in black-and-white; starting with the mid-70s, the majority are in color. Some images appear in Dow's published book, Signs: Photographs By Jim Dow (2022).
Original titles and negative identifiers were created by the photographer.
- Material specific details:
- The archival pigment photographs in this series were printed by Jim Dow from November 2020 to April 2021, using an Epson P5000 printer and Canson Baryta Photographique II paper. The handling print sizes are: sheet size, 8½x11 inches; image size, 8x10 inches. The exhibit-quality prints are: sheet size, 13x19 inches; image size, 12x15 inches.
