According to Bernard Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Colonial Gentry, Henry Whatley Estridge (of Estridge Estates, St. Kitts, and Minety House, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England) was born in 1837 to George Estridge and Grace Male. Henry had four siblings: Edward (1833-1866), George Taylor (1835-1862), Anne Marin (1834-1840), and Grace Elizabeth (1843-1882).
Henry's father, George, was the third son of Joseph Estridge (1777-1814) and Ann Taylor (1776-1854). In all, Joseph and Ann had eight children: Joseph (d. 1802), Charles (1803-1851), George, Susannah (1806-1807), John (1809-1829), Joseph (1811-1890), and Henry (1812-1852).
Burke traced the family's presence in St. Kitts back at least four generations, to John Estridge (c. 1640-1701), and in 1895 wrote that they had "held the same estates ever since."
