Scope and content:

The Recordings of Others subseries contains a variety of items. Some stem from organizations Franklin was connected with, such as the Children's Defense Fund and the USSAS in Durban. Other recordings concern topics related to Franklin's work, including commercial videos on race-related issues. A smaller number of recordings include commercial musical performances, including a compilation of Civil War songs performed by a former student of Franklin, to recordings of notable writers and historians. The earliest musical recordings is from 1959, "An Evening of Spirituals" performed by African American artist Merritt Hedgeman.
