Elias Fulp (1859-1924) was a physician and pharmacist from Walnut Cove, North Carolina. This collection consists mainly of the financial records of Elias Fulp's medical practice in Stokes County, North Carolina. It also includes a small amount of family and business correspondence (1869-1902), as well as legal and financial records (1903-1906) related to Fulp's role as trustee during Sidney H. Reid's bankruptcy proceedings. One financial account book (1870-1876) contains details of estates and guardianships administered by L. A. Paschall of Granville County, NC.

Scope and content:

This collection consists mainly of the financial records of Elias Fulp's medical practice in Stokes County, North Carolina. It also includes a small amount of family and business correspondence (1869-1902), as well as legal and financial records (1903-1906) related to Sidney H. Reid's bankruptcy proceedings. One financial account book (1870-1876) contains details of estates and guardianships administered by L. A. Paschall of Granville County, NC.

Biographical / historical:

Elias Fulp (1859-1924) was a physician and pharmacist of Walnut Cove, Stokes County, North Carolina. He was born on March 4, 1859, to parents Joseph and Jane (Branson) Fulp. He attended the University of North Carolina (1878-1879) and the Medical College of New York University, where he completed his medical studies in 1882. In 1880, Fulp married Lula Lindsay (1860-1934), with whom he had six children.

In addition to his medical career, Fulp was a postmaster in Stokes County from 1892 through 1903. He also acted as trustee for Sidney H. Reid of Forsyth County, N.C., during Reid's bankruptcy proceedings.

Fulp died on June 17, 1924, in Sauratown, Stokes County, N. C.

The Elias Fulp Papers were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a purchase in 1956.
