Scope and content:

Sidney Gamble moved to Ding Xan in 1931 to serve as research secretary of the National Association for the Mass Education Movement, and carried out surveys of village life. The film features Ding Xian street scenes: men, women, boys and girls from schools, horse carts and sedan chairs, stores, street pedlars, roadside stands selling baked buns and other things and a procelain repairer. It also records a funeral procession and a market day where grains and cotton were measured and sold.
