Contains the letters of Ann Henshaw Gardiner and other members of the Snodgrass, Henshaw, and the Anderson families. Early letters are predominantly business in character, concerning land transactions. Includes letters of Virginia Henshaw and her sisters, Mabel and Francis Little Henshaw, regarding genealogical matters with interest in the Rawlings family. Also contains letter about the history of the Anderson family. Topics addressed in the letters include business and land transactions, John Brown's raid, the arrival of the Japanese Embassy in Washington, the passage of the woman suffrage amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the sale and purchase of enslaved people, freed Black people and abolitionists, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
