England and Ireland, 1974 Summer and 1982
- Scope and content:
-
Most of the images from Ireland and England were taken during Gedney's first overseas venture in summer 1974. He visited Dublin, Ireland, where he captured urban street life, youth culture, riverside and coastal scenes, and the social aspects of Dublin's horse races, then took a ferry to England, where he spent most of his time in London and Brighton, again focusing on street life, youth culture, and daily life in the beach resort of Brighton.
In 1982, en route to Paris, France, Gedney stopped off again in England, shooting film in various unidentified locations. There are no contact sheets or prints in the collection from this sojourn.
Gedney developed the 1974 negatives to form contact sheets beginning with IR and EN, and one additional strip from Brighton, 1974 was developed as an appended row to contact sheet 2127.
Prints in this series are arranged in rough chronological order. Titles of finished prints, if given, were assigned by Gedney.
