Scope and content:

Materials in this subseries record Heschel's profound and rigorous involvement in ending the war in Vietnam. Primary topics include the co-founding and daily activities of the Clergy Concerned About Vietnam (or CCAV, which later changed its name to Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam [CALCAV] to be more inclusive) with Fr. Richard John Neuhaus and Reverend Daniel J. Berrigan, protest activities which Heschel lead and attended, articles and other writings about Vietnam, Heschel's efforts to collect signatures on a Jewish statement of protest against the war, Heschel's involvement in trial of the Cantonsville Nine and the My Lai Massacre, and the election of George McGovern. Materials include correspondence, handwritten notes, bulletins, articles, press releases, clippings, full-page political advertisements, and posters.
