The Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo papers comprises interviews with female domestic worker residents of Los Angeles between 1993 and 1996. Most of the interviewees come from Latin America. The interviews address a wide variety of topics: job searching and recruiters, relationships with employers, employment history, work-related injuries, job content, food habits, childcare, motherhood, wages, and transportation. In general terms, the interviews describe in depth and detail the day-to-day lives of the domestic workers from their own voice and perspective. The interviews also address the lives of the interviewees before migration, their emotions and feelings about migration, and their future plans. To a lesser extent, the collection includes interviews with employers. These interviews address the content of the job, the characteristics required of employees, and the relationship between employer and employee. Most of the interviews were conducted in Spanish. The interviews were used to write Hondagneu-Sotelo's book Domestica: Immigrant Workers Cleaning and Caring in the Shadows of Affluence. The collection also includes a short story about labor exploitation published by the Domestic Workers Association, and a copy of the book Domestica: Immigrant Workers Cleaning and Caring in the Shadows of Affluence.
