Scope and content:

Hurwicz's professional correspondence with coauthors (Kenneth Arrow, Stanley Reiter, Marcel Richter), colleagues at the University of Minnesota (Vernon Ruttan), former students (Tatsuyoshi Saijo) and others. Most original folder titles have been retained, and a few attached reprints or notes are included. Organized into six subseries: People; Chronologial Correspondence; Email Correspondence; University of Minnesota; Professional Organizations and Other Universities; and Conferences, Research, and Travel.

The University of Minnesota subseries chronicles the life of the university in the 1970s-1980s, particularly the evolution of the Economics Department. The Professional Organizations and Other Universities subseries include some grant proposals in the National Science Foundation folders. The Conferences, Research, and Travel subseries includes extensive files on Hurwicz's trips to China in the mid-1980s.

Additional correspondence can be found in the Writings and in the Research and Notes series. A small but significant amount of correspondence regarding Hurwicz's immigration and earliest years in the US is in the Personal series, much of it in Polish.
