Jim Hall (b 1930) was born in Buffalo, NY. He studied with Hall Overton and participated in many Jazz Loft jam sessions. He is a guitarist and composer/arranger. Jane Hall, wife of guitarist Jim Hall, is a psychoanalyst. She studied composition with Hall Overton during the loft years.
This oral history focuses on Jim and Jane Hall, both of whom visited the Jazz Loft several times. Jane Hall talks about taking piano and notation lessons from Hall Overton, while Jim discusses jamming with various musicians. The Hall's relationships with other musicians including Sonny Rollins and Bill Evans are also talked about at length.
