Ira Jackson was born in Detroit, MI. A saxophonist, he participated in many loft jam sessions in the early 1960s. Jackson knew loft resident and bassist Jimmy Stevenson and other young Detroit musicians from their youth.
In this oral history, Jackson discusses racial politics and work ethics within the jazz scene during the 1960's. Also mentioned are many musicians that Jackson saw at the Jazz Loft including Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Tom Wayburn, and Bill Levinson.
