Scope and content:

Lou Orensteen (b. 1932) was born in Hollywood, CA. As a tenor saxophonist, he participated in loft jam sessions in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

In this oral history, Orensteen discusses his early life in California and Michigan, his time in the Korean War, and his involvement with various loft music scenes in New York City. Orensteen talks about jam sessions and musicians he frequently played with including Eric Dolphy, Sonny Clark, Jimmy Stephenson, and Tom Wayburn.
