Perkoff, Si, 2003 June 14

Scope and content:

Si Perkoff (b 1937) was born in St. Louis, MO. He started classical piano lessons when he was seven years old, and in 1957-58 he studied under Hall Overton at the loft.

In this oral history, Perkoff talks about his development as a musician, including his early interest in boogie woogie music and how that lead to an education at California School of Fine Arts. Perkoff also goes into details about his time spent in New York City as a musician, as a student of Hall Overton, and his brief incarceration at Riker's for marijuana possession.
