Bill Pierce (b 1935) was born in Waterbury, CT. A photographer with a background in theater, he was a longtime friend and associate of Gene Smith. Pierce introduced Smith to future collaborator Carole Thomas, who also came from a theater background. Pierce named his son William Eugene after Smith.
In this oral history, Pierce discusses his personal background and education, as well as his development as an artist. He also talks about working W. Eugene Smith and goes into specific detail about Smith's creative and technical processes.
