Scope and content:

Arthur Zitrin (b 1918) was an imminent psychiatrist affiliated with New York University Medical School and Bellevue Hospital. He also co-produced several historical documentaries and was an avid anti-death penalty activist.

In this oral history, Zitrin discusses his affiliation with Bellevue Hospital, his experiences co-producing documentary movies, and his memories about fellow psychiatrist Nathan Kline. W. Eugene Smith was once admitted to Bellevue and, later on, sought out care from Nathan Kline. While Zitrin did not know Smith, he talks about the dangers of alcoholism, Kline's psychiatric methods, and what Smith's illnesses might have been like.
