- Biographical / historical:
- In 1881 William Vansittart Bowater began business as a wholesale paper agent, primarily supplying newsprint, eventually operating as WV Bowater and Sons. The company changed its name to Bowater Paper Corporation in 1950 and to Bowater Corporation in 1972. In 1956 Bowater entered into a joint venture with Scott Paper Company to form Bowater Scott, focusing on the tissue paper market. Bowater's interest was bought by Scott in 1986, which continued producing tissue products as Scott Limited. In 1995 Scott was acquired by Kimberly-Clark.
