The collection spans the years approximately 1900 through 1975 and contains employment records, transfer notices, correspondence of superiors and other materials pertaining to the personnel operations of J. Walter Thompson Company. In some cases, examples of creative work are included in the files. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

The J. Walter Thompson Company Personnel Records were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a periodical transfer beginning in 1986.
