Personal Files, 1845-1963 and undated

Scope and content:

Personal Files includes miscellaneous writings from members of the Lee family; miscellaneous printed materials, including newspaper clippings and other ephemera; genealogy papers for the Parran and Lee families; and some photographs of buildings, landscapes, and individuals in Carlsbad, NM and Shepherdstown, WV. Also includes a volume with notes from a logic class taken by George Rust Bedinger at the University of Virginia in 1859. The volume includes some written correspondence from Shepherdstown, WV, poetry, and financial ledger sheets.

The family writings include diary entries from Henrietta Bedinger Lee, Edmund Jennings Lee III, and Edwin Gray Lee. Henrietta’s diary focuses on religious themes based on several sermons. Her entries also include poems on her deceased children and a humorous dream about her husband’s first wife. Edmund’s diary entries are a few typescript copies of short entries of his daily activities in 1866. Edwin’s diary details his time in the Confederate army in the latter half of the Civil War, from 1864-1865. Arranged alphabetically by folder title.
