Volume (435 pages) contains notes from the lectures of Dr. Benjamin Smith Barton, M.D., taken by Peter Washington Little while he was a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania. The volume begins with the third lecture and focuses on Barton's ideas on botanical medicine and medicinal plants. It also includes several recipes recorded by Little on the end pages and papers. Four laid-in pages of notes, on herbs and on Horace's "Carmen Saeculare" and Pindar's poems, were removed and are housed separately.
