The heart and its action, circa 1888-1890
- Extent:
- 18 slides
- Scope and content:
-
This set of 18 slides bears the title, The heart and its action. The slides show the position of the heart within the chest cavity, the valves and vessels of the heart, and associated aspects of cardiovascular and neurological anatomy. The illustrator is unknown.
The same set of slide titles, listed at 36 slides on the Lucerna Magic Lantern website, carries another title, The heart and how it beats. This set was manufactured by York & Son sometime before 1890, when it was listed in the stock of a distributor. In 1909, J. Lizars listed this same-titled set in its stock, number 589. However, the set in this collection does not carry the Lizars label, and may have been part of another distributor's stock inventory.
The slide titles appear on the top edges of the object, with some gaps due to deterioration of the paper bindings; the original numbers are also present as small round labels.
