Extent:
15 Gigabytes (8996 files (8762 JPEG, 122 TIFF, 108 PDF, 3 MPEG-4, 1 RTF))
Scope and content:

The color photographs in this series were taken by photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi over a period of seventeen years, chiefly on assignment for the Times of Malta and Reuters and in some cases for NGOs and personal projects. The images document the circumstances of migrants once they leave Malta's "open centers," akin to refugee camps, and navigate Maltese society as well as the process of relocation to third countries. Images depict migrants, primarily from the Horn of Africa and elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa, in varied contexts: at a range of gatherings including celebrations, vigils, funerals, protests, and performances; in situations of transitional housing or displacement from housing; at work; and in transit. Most photographs depict the shared circumstances or activities of larger or smaller groups, while others depict individuals in close-up portraits or embedded in their larger environments. All prints measure approximately 20x24 inches.

Electronic records (8996 files) also form an important part of this series. All images are in color. They include 122 TIFFs, 8762 low-resolution JPEGs from which the larger images were selected; fifty-six PDFs of contact sheets; fifty-two PDFs of news articles featuring Zammit Lupi's photographic work, almost exclusively from the Times of Malta; three video recordings in MPEG-4; and one RTF.
