- Scope and content:
-
This subseries contains photographs by Danny Lyon that were published in The Movement: Documentary of a Struggle for Equality (Simon and Schuster, 1964). It also includes a copy of the book.
- Biographical / historical:
- The Movement: Documentary of a Struggle for Equality was published shortly after the March on Washington. The photobook included many photographs by Danny Lyon and other photographers documenting the civil rights movement and its workers. The illustrations lacked formal titles; instead, narrative captions and longer texts by Lorraine Hansberry accompanied single images or groups of images.
