Primarily contains articles and speeches, but also reports, statements, notes, lecture contracts, and memoranda. Also, there is correspondence, especially concerning arrangements for lectures and responses to articles. Principally these are the works of Matthews, but this series also encompasses Ruth I. Matthews and others; some of the writings are unidentified. Formats include originals, reprints, mimeographed copies, and clippings. The two major categories are the alphabetical series and the general papers. The alphabetical series, the largest section, is organized by title, topic, or place of speech.
