- Extent:
- 141 items
- Scope and content:
-
This series includes 141 items. The predominant format is the pamphlet, though there are some single-sheet items. There are a few illustrated materials in this group.
Items falling under this classification include lyrics to individual arias or songs, with or without scores, or collections of songs that cannot be placed under any other heading. These items have little or no surrounding critical apparatus.
Individual composers or authors represented include: Gaston Paris, Guido Mazzoni, Riccardo Zandonai, Angelo Tortone, Gabriele D'Annunzio, Giosue` Carducci, Giambattista Strozzi, and Emilio Teza.
Not included under this series are critical studies of songs, which would go under or "Italy -- Social life and Customs," depending on the focus. Some songs are classified under historical or political categories if their content makes this appropriate. For instance, some small illustrated broadsides of songs from wars in Africa are classified under "Italy -- History".
