Barry McKinley was an advertising executive and commercial producer at the Needham Harper & Steers advertising agency's Los Angeles office. Collection consists of 71 reels of audiotape and 16mm film which contain radio and television spots produced by McKinley, primarily during his career with Needham, Harper and Steers advertising agency. Companies represented include Betty Crocker (General Mills), Continental Airlines, Craig, Falstaff, S.C. Johnson, State Farm, Suzuki, U.S. Divers, Wrigley, and Wynn. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Scope and content:

Collection consists of 71 reels of audiotape and 16mm film which contain radio and television spots produced by McKinley, primarily during his career with Needham, Harper and Steers advertising agency. Companies represented include Betty Crocker (General Mills), Continental Airlines, Craig, Falstaff, S.C. Johnson, State Farm, Suzuki, U.S. Divers, Wrigley, and Wynn.

Biographical / historical:

Barry McKinley was an advertising executive and commercial producer at the Needham Harper & Steers advertising agency's Los Angeles office.

Barry McKinley began as a child actor and later a singer and bandleader in the midwest. In the 1950s McKinley worked as a television producer for WBBM in Chicago, directing local programming and television commercials. He relocated to California in the 1960s where he worked in radio before joining Needham, Louis and Brorby (which later merged to form Needham, Harper & Steers). McKinley retired in the mid-1970s and died in 1991.
